Article Marketing Tips- Part 2

In the second part of the Tips series, I want to discuss the important items to consider when writing your articles to be used in your campaign. There are several key numbers to keep in mind when working on your articles. It is pretty widely agreed upon in the internet marketing arena that it is best to write articles between 400 and 700 words in length. The general idea behind this range is that it provides you a long enough article to optimise for any targeted keywords, while keeping you from spending too much time on each article. The other important number range is 2% to 5%, which is the ideal concentration for your targeted keywords in the article.

When writing your article, try to resist all urges to include a product pitch of any sort or any affiliate links. You simply want to write informative text on the topic you have chosen. If you are looking to improve your page’s rank for a certain keyword or phrase, it can be very beneficial to use keyword optimisation in your article. When reading articles online, I have always found it pretty easy to tell which writers were trying to stuff a keyword into the article. Your goal should be to not do this. You want the article to sound as natural as possible. I’ve always found it easiest to just write the article without worrying about any keywords first, then go back and make some adjustments to try and get the target keyword up to around 2%-3%.

Many article directories will not allow links in the actual text of the article. On these sites, you will need to put special attention into the “about the author” section. Again, remember that you should be less worried about making the reader feel obligated to click over to your site than making sure your link is there for the search engines to find. A handful of directories will only allow text in this section which means you will be forced to use your page’s url as the anchor text for the link. If you have the option of including HTML in the author section, be sure to take advantage of it. Try to use your targeted keyword in the anchor text for the link back to your site whenever possible.
